What is Carrot Chariot?

Carrot Chariot is a CSA (Community Support Agriculture) project, focused on providing our customers & shareholders with fresh vegetables, delivered to their door. This is our first year in operation, and we’re opening with just 20 SPOTS AVAILABLE. Sign up on our home page to make sure you know when things go live!

What is a CSA?

A CSA is a community supported agriculture program in which consumers have the unique opportunity to form a relationship with their local farmer. Shares of the farm are purchased at the beginning of the season, allowing farmers to both offer a discount and have access to funds before harvests. This creates a win-win for both the farmers and the consumers, and helps form strong bonds as the community supports local agriculture!

What is a "share" in a Community Supported Agriculture program?

A share is a weekly package of fresh produce delivered for up to 20 weeks. The produce provided will vary depending on what is in season at the time. And, is always fresher and more affordable than making trips to the grocery store.

How is this different from grocery store?

Food found at grocery stores has typically travelled an average of 1,500 miles and is up to 2 weeks old by the time it hits the shelves. Carrot Chariot guarantees you have access to the freshest locally grown produce that travels up 10 15 miles and is harvested no more than 24 hrs before delivery. Carrot Chariot saves you time and money while offering some peace of mind.

How much will I save?

Each package option for our shares will save you different amounts, and may fluctuate based on where you typically shop. However, on average, Carrot Chariot can save you 30% on your produce purchases, while also saving you the extra time at the grocery store or farmers market.

When does the season start/end?

Our growing season is from May – October. Plants need the month of May to grow to a harvestable size. So, from June – October you will receive a weekly share for up 20 weeks.

How do I receive my produce & how often?

We offer you the option to choose between pick up or delivery (within certain zip codes). If you would like to pick up you may do so the downtown muskegon farmers market. If you would prefer delivery or would like to have a share delivered to a friend all you need to do is provide an address and choose a day and time for delivery.

How fresh is the produce?

Every share will contain produce picked no longer than 24 hrs prior to delivery.

What is the ecological impact of growing and how are you minimizing?

The use of fossil fuels, energy and plastic is unavoidable at this time. However, we operate with the mindset of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. We aim to offset our emissions and carbon footprint by building healthy soil, growing healthy plants and encouraging recycling.

Can I order for my friends & family?

Absolutely. The gift of healthy food is one of the best gifts you could give. Spread the Health! Just make sure to put the recipient’s name address in the shipping field when you checkout.

How is your food grown? Organic/chemicals, etc?

Your food is grown with all natural regenerative principles. We use no chemicals or synthetic fertilizers. All of our seeds are non-gmo. We focus on mimicking natural patterns and applying them to functional and manageable landscapes.

How are you being accountable to eco friendly growing principles?

We are always learning about and working toward applying the best eco friendly practices. We hold ourselves accountable to high standards, because high quality produce is only possible through healthy soil. So we start with the soil, and finish great tasting, nutrient dense food. Itโ€™s what you deserve.

What happens in case of drought or acts of god?

There may be times through the season where nature wonโ€™t want to provide ideal growing conditions. During these times there may be smaller shares or produce unavailable as expected. While we hate to disappoint during these times we will appreciate your understanding when things are out of our hands, as we cannot control the weather. During these times we will do our best to provide anything lacking from our local Temple Urban Farm.

Can I cancel at any time?

By joining the CSA, you are committing yourself to be a member for the entire 3 months, thus providing us with a secure market โ€“ a very welcome thing in the uncertain world of farming! We, in turn, dedicate ourselves to being your farmer, providing you with nutritious, naturally grown, high quality products. If you are moving away or something drastic happens, we will consider refunding the balance of your share. But first consider transferring ownership of your share to a friend or co-worker.
